Brusho and Stencil Magic

Hello Colourcraft friends.  Gail here today.  I was pleased with the effect of the mask I used on my last Brusho's project, so today I decided to see what I could make with Brusho's and a stencil.  I ended up with two different cards with pretty backgrounds.

I placed my stencil on a piece of white paper and sprinkled Sea Green, Yellow, Emerald Green and Sunburst Yellow Brusho powders. 

Then I spritzed with water and folded the paper over the top of the stencil.

I unfolded the paper and removed the stencil.  I really liked the colour lift I got off the top of the stencil.  A bit too much colour and water on the other one maybe?  But no, actually I like that one too.  For some reason I thought it looked a bit industrial. They just need a bit of contrast now.  So I decided to add some intricate black die cuts.

Thinking of You with Brusho's and Aztec Paints

Hello Colourcraft friends.  Gail here.  Happy New Year to you all from me.  Now Christmas is over we start looking forward and soon the season of hearts and flowers will be with us.   Today I want to share a hearty card I made using Scarlet Brusho Powder, Copper Aztec paint and some die cuts.

I've used Poppystamps Perched Fairy and the Heart Swoosh die, which I thought would give her the perfect place to perch.

I started by making the background panel.  I cut a heart shape from an old magazine.   The glossy paper survives getting wet a bit better, and I was throwing it away anyway, so it seemed ideal.  I placed the paper heart in the center of my white card, spritzed with water and sprinkled Scarlet Brusho powder.  Then I removed the heart mask.  Ta dah!!!  Heart shaped white space.

I took some glossy card and a small amount of Copper Aztec paint on a wide brush and dry brushed the paint onto the paper.  I wanted a sort of metallic woodgrain effect.

I used a stitch die to cut my Brusho panel and mounted on a red base card.  I cut the Heart Swoosh die from the Copper Aztec painted card, and then cut the fairy from black card.  I decided not to cut her wings, so she's just a girl, sitting on a swoosh, thinking of you.

Halloween Tag with Aztec Paints

Hello Colourcraft friends.  Gail here today with a Halloween themed tag.  I have a friend who was lucky enough to be born on the most spooktacular day of the year so I needed a tag for the gift.  

I started by cutting a piece of corrugated card with Gummiapan large Old Tag die.  I painted it with Blue Aztec Eco Lustre Metallic Paint.  When it had dried I over painted with Purple Aztec Eco Lustre Metallic Paint.  The resulting colour reminds me strongly of shot silk.   The bubbles you may be able to see in this picture disappeared once the paint was dry.

 I cut the spooky house, bats, moon and words using Sizzix dies and some scraps left over from my mermaid project.  I had painted some card with Charcoal Aztec Eco Lustre Metallic Paint and then added some gold splats.  

A bit of recycled sari 'wool' and the tag is done.

Brusho and Aztec Paint Halloween Card

Hello Colourcraft friends.  Gail here today.  This month the team has been given the theme of Chill in the Air and I've gone with spooky chill bwahaahahaaha.

I wanted to go with traditional black, purple and orange, but I didn't have any orange Aztec paint.  Since these paints are intermixable I decided to make some!!  Yellow and red equals yummy orange.  Oooh, so pretty.   

I painted a textured card base with the orange Aztec paint.  I cut an oval of watercolour paper with a die and sprayed it with water.  I sprinkled Purple and Violet Brusho powders and spritzed some more water.  Before it dried totally I sprinkled some Crimson Brusho powder.  I used black ink to edge the oval and glued it to the orange card.

I used Sizzix Witchcraft and Haunted House dies and cut some silhouettes from black card and added them to the card.  Love the contrast of the black against the bright orange and purple.

One Background Four Cards with Suzi

Good Day, Today It's my pleasure to share with you my latest creations using lots of ColourCraft Products, I've used a selection of Brusho Crystal Colour Powders, SprinkleIt Powder and Aztec Metallic and Lustre Paints.

  Our theme this month is 'Chill in the Air' so I decided to create a Galaxy Night Sky, the sort of Sky you see on a clear crisp night.  I've created Four Different Cards using the Galaxy paper I created;

Here's how I made them; First of all I created my Galaxy paper using Brusho Crystal Colour Powders in Alizarin Crimson, Violet, Purple, Turquoise and White along with Pearl SprinkleIt Powder.  I then cut the background down to fit my cards.

For my first card I decided to create a wintery scene,

To create this scene I used a piece of the Galaxy paper, along with some White Card cut in the shape of hills, which I edged with blue ink and then gave a coat of Silver Aztec Metallic Paint to give it a lovely subtle shine.  I also die cut a Polar Bear from White Card, edged with blue ink then paint with the Silver paint.  For my Trees and Moon I used some paper that I'd painted with Pink and Purple Aztec Lustre Paints.  I added a little Silver paint to the sky and moon for a bit of extra shine and contrast.

For my next card I decided to find a way to use the smaller bits of Galaxy paper, I love using circles at the moment, so die cut a few circles in different sizes.

To compliment the die cut circles I used a Bubble stamp and sentiment from Crafty Roo Designs.  I love how the circles look like planets.

My final two cards were so quick and simple to make.  I took two pieces of white card and using cut away dies cut my designs from the cards before layering the Galaxy paper behind them and adding to a couple of card blanks.  I also stamped a sentiment on each card using two more sentiment stamps from Crafty Roo Designs.

That's all of my cards for today, as you can see one background paper can be used in a few different ways and even the smallest pieces can be utilised to great effect.  I loved creating my Galaxy background, you never quite know how it's going to turn out, but the Brusho Crystal Colour Powders make it so easy to get great results. This was the first time I used the White Brusho Powder, and it adds some really subtle highlights/stars to the background; adding a little of the Pearl SprinkleIt Powder gave it a love subtle shimmer too so it really does look like a starry night.

Thank You Card with Suzi

Good Morning All, Today I'd like to share with you a Thank You Card I've created using Acrylic Inks to colour some die cuts, along with Brusho Background papers I created for a previous project.

Here's how I made my card.

First of all I die cut two boots from white cards stock, and an assortment of flowers and stems from Brusho background papers i'd created previously.

Next I started to create my plaid/tartan pattern on the boot cut outs.  The first step was to add some lines of Yellow Acrylic Ink with a Bamboo Pen,

I then added some lines of Turquoise Acrylic Ink,

I finally added some lines of Bottle Green Acrylic Ink.

I then created my card base.  I used a 5 x 7 inch card blank, to which I added some dark green card followed by a layer of white cardstock.  To the white card stock I added some green ruffled paper from my stash along with a strip of green brusho background paper.  I then added the boot die cuts and the greenery I'd die cut.

I then added the floral die cuts.

To finish my card I added a stamped and die cut sentiment, along with a strip of blue brusho paper to tie the sentiment to the rest of the card.

I had great fun creating this card, I love creating plaid/tartan patterns and love how these boots turned out.  I also love how you can create the main focal point of a card from leftover bits of pretty papers. I hope you've enjoyed an insight into my creating process, I love sharing my work with you all.

Easy layered cards with Brusho crystal colours by Karen

We all like to have a few cards on hand for when needed in a hurry, right? I certainly like to have a few available for any occasion where I can just add whatever text or sentiment is appropriate.

I love using Brusho colours to create colourful papers and focus points for the cards and this week I have used Gamboge, Terracotta and Scarlet on watercolour paper to create a strongly pigmented sheet: I sprinkled the paper randomly with the colours and sprayed them with lots of water to blend the colours and cover the paper.

I also added a lighter sprinkling of colours on a few smaller pieces that I used as layers between the stronger tones.

Once dry, the stronger coloured sheet was splattered with gold paint for extra texture, dimension and colour (and because I love splattering paint?!).

I cut this sheet in to bands and die-cut flowers and sentiments to layer on my cards.

Some parts of the sheet were stamped and hand cut for decoration.

Using a master sheet is an easy way to ensure everything matches! Extra embellishments are optional depending on your taste and what you have available. I doodled with brown and gold pens on the card above and added gold thread to the card below.

I'm happy now knowing that I have a few cards for any occasion ready to use.

Scrapbooking with Brusho Crystal Colours by Karen

I often create my own backgrounds on my scrapbook pages or albums using Brusho powders, building up the strength of colour where I want it and to match or contrast with my photos. This page also gives me the opportunity to explain a bit more of how I use embossing ink to hold the colour from the powder in patterns on the paper.

In my last post <here> I used a stamp and transparent embossing ink to hold the Lemon Brusho in a striped pattern: On this page I sponged embossing ink through a stencil, roughly in the centre of my 12" x 12" watercolour paper. I hope you can see that in the photo below:

Then I sprinkled Leaf Green Brusho over the ink and other parts of the page and pounced the powder on to the ink with a paintbrush. The humidity of the ink immediately starts to activate the colour:

When I then misted the page with water, the colour remained strongest in the pattern I had stenciled. I love this technique for adding texture and pattern to papers.

I laid out the other elements I was thinking of using on my page and, roughly following the colours in my photos, decided to add Brushos to colour some of these. I livened up the plain grey postage tag with some tone-on-tone Grey Brusho: I misted the tag with water, sprinkled some colour and created a border by dragging a paintbrush round the edges spreading out some of the colour there.

I also used 3 different tones - Gamboge, Light Brown and Dark Brown - to colour my die cut bird and branch. Again misting water and sprinkling colour and this time using a paintbrush in a circular motion to make sure all the paper was covered without making the colours too uniform. I worked over another piece of paper that I used to die cut the word 'ensemble' (together) from.

I coloured a further piece of paper with Leaf Green Brusho and die cut leaves to transform my bare branch in to something better resembling springtime. A few additions of scrapbook paper and a stamped and written label and my page is ready for the album!
