Trick or Treat with Suzi

Good Day All, It' Halloween Tomorrow, so I couldn't resist creating a couple of spooky projects for you.  I'm hoping you'll view them as Treat's rather than Tricks, but we shall see!

Here's my first project;

In a previous life it used to hold a note pad, it's got a couple of large magnets on the back, so I thought it would make a wonderful extra large fridge magnet.

The first thing I did was give the board a couple of coats of white gesso to prime it.  I then added some White DesignIt Paste through a spiderweb stencil.  Once dry I dry brush it with some Prussian Blue Eco Acrylic Paint.

The next stage was to create my die cut elements to decorate the plaque.  I used Black Pearl Pigment Powder mixed with Gloss Medium to colour some card for my spooky houses.  I also used some card painted with Yellow and Orange Lustre Paints.

Here's the houses once I'd added them to the board;

To decorate the top half of my oversized magnet, I used a large Trick or Treat Diecut, and layered it over more of the Yellow and Orange paper.

Now onto my second project, which is rather spooky!

I had great fun decorating this polystyrene Skull, Here's how I went about it;

First of all I added White Gesso and Blue Metallic Acrylic Paint to the Skull for my base coats;

I then added a couple of layers of the Metallic Blue to the left side of the Skull, Whilst on the right side I added some White DesignIt Paste through a spiderweb stencil (unfortunately this come out as clearly as I'd hoped, afterall it's tricky stencilling a 3D object, lol).

Next I dry brush some Prussian Blue Eco Acrylic Paint over the whole Skull.  I then decided to add some extra decoration to the Metallic Blue side of the Skull.  Using Snowflake stamps from Crafty Roo Designs, I stamped in Clear Embossing Ink, and Embossed with Stamp and Stick powder so that I could add Silver Foil to the Skull.  I also added some of the Ink to the Eye sockets, nose and teeth, for an extra bit of sparkle.

To finish the Skull I took two large White marbles and added Iris details to them with a couple of paint pens, afterall, Mr Skull needs to see what's going on.

He can be a little careless with his eyes, as you can see from this pics;

Halloween Tag with Aztec Paints

Hello Colourcraft friends.  Gail here today with a Halloween themed tag.  I have a friend who was lucky enough to be born on the most spooktacular day of the year so I needed a tag for the gift.  

I started by cutting a piece of corrugated card with Gummiapan large Old Tag die.  I painted it with Blue Aztec Eco Lustre Metallic Paint.  When it had dried I over painted with Purple Aztec Eco Lustre Metallic Paint.  The resulting colour reminds me strongly of shot silk.   The bubbles you may be able to see in this picture disappeared once the paint was dry.

 I cut the spooky house, bats, moon and words using Sizzix dies and some scraps left over from my mermaid project.  I had painted some card with Charcoal Aztec Eco Lustre Metallic Paint and then added some gold splats.  

A bit of recycled sari 'wool' and the tag is done.

Brusho and Aztec Paint Halloween Card

Hello Colourcraft friends.  Gail here today.  This month the team has been given the theme of Chill in the Air and I've gone with spooky chill bwahaahahaaha.

I wanted to go with traditional black, purple and orange, but I didn't have any orange Aztec paint.  Since these paints are intermixable I decided to make some!!  Yellow and red equals yummy orange.  Oooh, so pretty.   

I painted a textured card base with the orange Aztec paint.  I cut an oval of watercolour paper with a die and sprayed it with water.  I sprinkled Purple and Violet Brusho powders and spritzed some more water.  Before it dried totally I sprinkled some Crimson Brusho powder.  I used black ink to edge the oval and glued it to the orange card.

I used Sizzix Witchcraft and Haunted House dies and cut some silhouettes from black card and added them to the card.  Love the contrast of the black against the bright orange and purple.

There's a Chill in the Air.....and a Chill down your Spine!

Hello - Teresa here again, and it's my favourite season! Time for ghosts and ghouls, pumpkins and black cats, and all manner of creepy cool characters!

I have created a piece of Halloween decor, to help set the mood for a spook-tacular party!

I began by taking a MDF circle to use as my base (you could cut a base from sturdy card). I covered it with crinkled up Tissuetex and matte medium.

Once dry, I added some wooden embellishments with a glue gun.

I painted the whole thing with black eco-acrylic and allowed to dry.

I used Brusho Shimmer Sprays in gold, bronze and copper to add colour and a wonderful metallic sheen to the piece. I used some charcoal Shimmer Spray to dull down an old Christmas frame ornament.

To finish, I attached the frame and added some Tim Holtz Paper Dolls, as well as some Halloween Quote Chips.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial - it is so easy to create beautiful mixed media pieces with these Shimmer Sprays. Photos do not do them justice, as the colours change as the light catches the detail.

Halloween Slider Cards with Suzi

Good Day All, As it's Halloween today I decided to share a couple of Slider Cards I've created using Brusho Crystal Colour Powders and some Dies.  Here's what I did;

I used Watercolour Card to create these background sheets.  I sprayed the watercolour card  with water then add Brusho Crystal Colour Powders in Gamboge, Orange, Lime Green and Violet. I added the Lime Green and Violet then dried with my heat tool, before adding Gamboge and Orange and some more water.  This helps to stop the colours mixing too much and creating a brown, which I didn't want.  I omitted the Gamboge and Orange from the second sheet.

I then took a Black A6 card blank and added a layer of orange card, and created an Orange A6 card blank from same orange card and added a layer of black card.  These form the bases of my slider cards.

I then cut the Brusho backgrounds I'd created to fit onto my card bases.

Next I added my dies to my background and ran them through the die cutting machine.

The next stage was to add my die cuts to the card base.  I placed the main piece over the card base and carefully inserted the piece of card from the slider cut, this gives the illusion of your slider image floating, as you have a seam free background behind it.  I cut two circles of card and sandwiched them together either side of the background, with a piece of foam pad in between to create my slider element.  Once I was happy that it slide well, I adhered the background piece to the card with more foam pads.

I then created my main slider element.  I cut a rough body shape from a scrap of the other Brusho background  I'd created and place a spooky face die onto and ran it through my die cutting machine.  Before adding it to my card I added a scrap of white paper behind the cut.  I coloured the pupils of the eyes and added some doodling around the whole body and die cut features.

Here's finished card with my spooky monster face on the slider.  I added the word 'Boo' with a paint pen.  Here's a picture of the face once it starts to move;

Here's the second card I created using the same process, with the second Brusho background i'd created and a different face die.

I had so much fun creating these cards, I love how the Brusho papers I created tie all the elements of the card together. Interactive cards are fun to create and play with, and you can get some great dies to make creating them really easy.

Quick Halloween Pumpkins with Ewelina

Hey everyone!
Are you Halloween ready?
I certainly am not and last weekend was for catching up on some holiday decor.
I went to a local Pick Your Own Farm and gathered some small-ish pumpkins.
And, since I no longer had an excuse, it was time to do some crafty decorating...

I started by painting all my pumpkins with white gesso and letting it completely dry.
This was the base for my Brusho fun.

First pumpkin was sprinkled with Copper SprinkleIt and Burnt Sienna Brusho. 

I was misting the top with water and adding the pigments as I went until I achieved the look I wanted.

The next one was Crimson and Brilliant Red plus Pearl SprinkleIt.

Here you can see Leaf Green and Sandstone plus Iridescent Goes SprinkleIt.

And finally Terracotta and Yellow Ochre plus Iridescent Flash SprinkleIt.

That's it! The pumpkins are ready - make sure you let the paint dry thoroughly before handling them otherwise you'll end up smudging the drips as well as dyeing your hands.

After admiring the finished pumpkins for a moment, I decided to add some flowers and chipboard spiders to one of them and give it to a friend of mine to put on her doorstep - she loved it!
