Tropical Fish Card with Brusho

Hello Colourcraft friends.  Gail here today with some tropical fun.

I started by cutting three 2.5" diameter pieces from white card.  I was thinking artist trading coins and I usually make them in threes cos they fit perfectly across a piece of A4 card.  I used a stitch edge die and then stamped using a fish from Rubber Dance Textured Fish set.

I masked the fish, stamped with Rubber Dance Grungy Sequins and sprinkled with Turquoise and Sea Green Brusho powders.  I carefully removed the masks and spritzed with water.  The water can draw some of the colour across the masked fish, but I just used a paper towel to blot it away.

I stamped with a grid stamp and a water reactive blue ink, sprinkled with the Sea Green Brusho powder and spritzed.  The water spreads the Brusho colour nicely and also softens the grid stamping.

I selected one of the fish coins, edged it with dark blue ink and added it to the card base.  I die cut the word from white card and added it in the corner.

Gift Cards with Aztec Paint - One Sheet Wonder

Hello Colourcraft friends.  Gail here today with another idea for the splatty Aztec paint masterboard I made a couple of weeks ago.  This beautiful remnant has been catching my eye so I decided to use it 'one sheet wonder style' to make a gift box with matching cards.

Here's the sheet I started with.   
Green, Silver and Blue Aztec paint splats on black card.

I folded my gift box and inked the edges with grey archival ink.  I cut panels for the top and sides of the box and inked the edges with silver ink.

I had a sheet of sepia vintage boy images so I added one to the box lid then made 5 cards using scraps from the Aztec splatty sheet and the images.  I love that these bright Aztec colours work so well with these vintage images.

PL Page with Brusho's and Aztec Paints

Hello Colourcraft friends.  How are you holding up in these strange times.  Some days the surreality of it all is just overwhelming.  April has a lot of significant dates for me so I have decided to document a few of them.  

I made a mini album page

I used black bazzill 12 x 12 inch sheet and Green, Blue and Silver Aztec paints and had a splat fest!!    Looks quite galactic!!!

I filled all the page pockets with my splatty background and then added that particularly fetching picture of myself.  I coloured a piece of card with green brushos and added some gold Aztec paint smears.  I die cut the leaves and added some pen details.  The flower was stamped and embossed and I added some brusho sprinkles.  I used a typewriter for the date and journaling.  I added a shrink plastic Poodle on my jacket cos I am obviously having a poodle sort of day!!!  Poodle stamp by Rubber Dance, flower stamp by Uniko.

Christmas Canvas by Gail

Hello Colourcraft friends.  Gail here today.  Last year Colourcraft had an article in the December Craft Stamper magazine.  I wanted to share the canvas I made for this feature and talk a bit about how I made it.  

I started with a small 10 x 10cm Canvas board.  I painted half with Blue Aztec Paint and half with Green Aztec paint, working on the diagonal.  The I stamped the trees across the canvas and embossed with green embossing powder.  I painted a piece of paper with Gold Aztec paint, stamped the deer and embossed with black embossing powder.  I fussy cut the deer and glued it to the canvas.  Both stamps are by Unity Stamp Co.

I painted some lace with Gold Aztec paint and glued it around the edge of the canvas.  

I added some more of the painted lace as a hanger and also added some bells.  I used embroidery thread to attach the bells and have also coloured this with Gold Aztec paint.  Perfect colour co-ordination.

String Pulls with Brusho's

Hello Colourcraft friends.  I saw some string pulls at a friends blog recently and wondered if they would work with Brusho's.  I haven't actually tried this technique before so I checked the video she recommended and picked up some tips.  Then I grabbed some card, string, an old book and some Brusho's and gave it a go. 

Here's what I ended up with.  They remind me of Calla Lilies.

This was one of my first attempts!!!!  Ummmmm, not so pretty LOL.  I think the string was too wet and I didn't pull it fast enough.  Try again......

Oooh, yes, much more the thing.  I mixed Crimson Brusho with water and used a piece of household string.  I dipped the string in the diluted Brusho colour and pulled it out, running it through my fingers to remove some of the moisture.  Then you lay it on the card in a wiggly pattern, fold the card over, close the book, apply a little pressure and pull!!   Very cool.

Here I used quite dilute Emerald Green Brusho and some embroidery thread.  This one makes me think sympathy.  Because you fold the card over you get two images from one pull!!  I do love a quick and easy technique!!!!

I simply edged the panels with ink and mounted them on matching colour card bases.   If you never tried this technique then I recommend giving it a try.

Abstract Art with Brusho's and Paint

I've made an abstract painting using Colourcraft Brusho's and acrylic paints.  Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I am loving this.

I started by applying a line of Eco Metallic Pearl Acrylic paint across the top of my card.

Using ye olde standard paint brush I worked the paint into a thin layer down the card.  Then I sprinkled Alazarin Crimson, Ost. Red and Scarlet Brusho's and using the brush drew the colour down over the paint.

Cool!!  I rotated the paper 180° and repeated the above steps, this time using Orange, Yellow and Lemon Brusho powders.

Looking hot!!!   Please excuse the variations in the picture colours.  Using the pearl paint makes everything pearlescent, and although it looks fabulous in the real it does present challenges for the camera LOL.  

I used a roller to apply some Bronze Aztec Metallic Lustre paint onto Carmen's Veranda Dice background stamp.  Using the stamp in my hand I randomly applied the paint to the background.

I brayered Black Acrylic paint onto Lost Coast Designs Drip background stamp and using the stamp in my hand I randomly applied lines to the background.  I added some water to Red Brusho powder and added some dramatic splats.

Blue Bird with Brusho's

Hello Colourcraft friends.  I love colouring on patterned papers.  Brusho's work perfectly for this, but if you are going to be using lots of water do test the papers first so you can see how it is going to react.

I started with a piece of Prima Wooden Boards paper and stamped and embossed a bird from Rubber Dance's new Textured Birds.  I used a small brush to paint his body with water and sprinkled Turquoise Brusho powder.    

Ta dah, instant colour inside the lines but with that cool Brusho sprinkle effect.  Once the colours have dried do be sure to brush away any loose powder that fell outside the wet area, otherwise you will be sure to find it in the wrong place next time you spritz!!! 

I water painted his head and sprinkled a tiny bit of Ost Blue Brusho.  It was a bit darker than I wanted so I added a few sprinkles of White Brusho powder.  It gave nice highlights.  Then I used Orange Brusho and the same technique for the beak.  

I used the small heart stamp in the bird set and red archival ink to stamp along the bottom of the card.  Then I sprinkled Leaf Green and a little bit of Sea Green Brusho and spritzed with water.  Uhhh.... I should have remembered to mask the bird before I went crazy with the water!!!  The Brusho colouring of course reactivated and I lost a bit of that cool marbling effect I had on his breast.  So do remember to mask!!!!   A sentiment strip and done.

Happy New Dog Card with Brusho's and Wax Resist

Hello Colourcraft friends.  Gail here today.  I've made a card today for a friend of mine.  When her old dog died she said she couldn't handle a puppy at her age so she wasn't going to get another dog.  I couldn't see that lasting and I was right.  She decided to adopt an older dog and happy together they are.  So to celebrate new beginnings and new friends I've made her a card.

I used dies to emboss the background then used wax resist and Brusho's to colour it.  I went green because it reminds me of spring, new starts, fresh growth and happy sunny times.

I started by embossing my background panel with this large paw die and filled in some of the smaller spaces with the tiny heart die.  Then I got my Brusho Wax Resist Sticks.  I took the paper off one of the sticks and used the edge to rub over the embossed design.

I sprinkled Sea Green and Leaf Green Brusho's on the card and spritzed with water.

The wax covered paws are left whiter than the background.  

I added he paw panel to a dark green base card.  I stamped Paper Smooches Dog and sentiments using brown ink and coloured the dog with Sandstone Brusho powder in water.  To finish I added a few of the tiny hearts cut from red card.

Brusho and Stencil Magic

Hello Colourcraft friends.  Gail here today.  I was pleased with the effect of the mask I used on my last Brusho's project, so today I decided to see what I could make with Brusho's and a stencil.  I ended up with two different cards with pretty backgrounds.

I placed my stencil on a piece of white paper and sprinkled Sea Green, Yellow, Emerald Green and Sunburst Yellow Brusho powders. 

Then I spritzed with water and folded the paper over the top of the stencil.

I unfolded the paper and removed the stencil.  I really liked the colour lift I got off the top of the stencil.  A bit too much colour and water on the other one maybe?  But no, actually I like that one too.  For some reason I thought it looked a bit industrial. They just need a bit of contrast now.  So I decided to add some intricate black die cuts.

Two pretty cards from a very simple technique.

Thinking of You with Brusho's and Aztec Paints

Hello Colourcraft friends.  Gail here.  Happy New Year to you all from me.  Now Christmas is over we start looking forward and soon the season of hearts and flowers will be with us.   Today I want to share a hearty card I made using Scarlet Brusho Powder, Copper Aztec paint and some die cuts.

I've used Poppystamps Perched Fairy and the Heart Swoosh die, which I thought would give her the perfect place to perch.

I started by making the background panel.  I cut a heart shape from an old magazine.   The glossy paper survives getting wet a bit better, and I was throwing it away anyway, so it seemed ideal.  I placed the paper heart in the center of my white card, spritzed with water and sprinkled Scarlet Brusho powder.  Then I removed the heart mask.  Ta dah!!!  Heart shaped white space.

I took some glossy card and a small amount of Copper Aztec paint on a wide brush and dry brushed the paint onto the paper.  I wanted a sort of metallic woodgrain effect.

I used a stitch die to cut my Brusho panel and mounted on a red base card.  I cut the Heart Swoosh die from the Copper Aztec painted card, and then cut the fairy from black card.  I decided not to cut her wings, so she's just a girl, sitting on a swoosh, thinking of you.
