HOME - embroidery hoop with Ewelina

Hey everyone!

I want to share with you my latest obsession - embroidery hoops.

I have loads of various types of canvas and burlap and have been creating loads of different projects after stretching them on various size embroidery hoops; some of them are mixed media, some are just fabric, some are painted canvas - just like this one.

To start, I chose the hoop I was going to use and outlined it on the canvas so that I knew what area I was working on. (Make sure you have an eraser ready to later on remove the outline! It took me good 15minutes to find a white eraser which wouldn't leave colourful lines on the fabric... oh, well...)

I attached the canvas to a cardboard to make it easy to stencil on and then attached the stencil where I wanted to add the design. It's important to stop both the fabric and the stencil from moving during the process to avoid smudges and spills.

Rather than using block colours, I tried layering and blending them a bit.

After removing the stencil, the design looked a little bit 'square' so I randomly added some more flowers to build it up.

Now for the hard part (for me) - writing.

I test-wrote the word first and once I was happy with the outcome, I transferred it onto tissue paper. That allowed me to play with the placement on the canvas; once I decided where to add it, I transferred it on to the canvas ready for painting.

I used my old PIGMA BrushPen and black paint to write the word - I find it works better than using regular paint brush.

Now that all the painting was done and dried, it was time to do some stretching... 

It's important to aim for the hoop to be where the outline you previously pencilled. Oh, and don't forget to erase it!

Once you're happy with the placement and tension of the fabric, tighten up the hoop and trim off the excess fabric.

Simple but pretty. 

You could add some fabric flowers or hand-stitch the wording...I am leaving mine just as it is right now.

Upcycling my storage - Ewelina

Despite being an extremely organised person, my craft room is always extremely messy.

I blame it on the fact that I like seeing what I have so that I can grab it when I'm in the zone rather than having to look for it... 

I didn't want to show the extent of my messy studio to the wide public so you get to see only one of the shelves - on this one, I store some of the bases for my projects (small canvas, boards, wood slices, disassembled albums and other bits and pieces).

Here is the before and after ^^^ 

I started by grabbing one of my spare Dröna boxes (yes, I have a stash of those too!) and Tattered Angels Mixed Media Origins paper called Masquerade Ball (I love those dressed up ladies!!!).

To top it up - both Opaque and Metallic Fabric Paints ... and I was ready to start,

I cut out the ladies and glued them onto the box.

CONFESSION: It wasn't the best decision and proved slightly messy afterwards. Don't make the same mistake!!! You should do your background first and then glue the ladies onto it.

I chose of my Artistcellar stencils and Blue Metallic Fabric paint to do the background.

I used washi tape to keep the stencil in place while dabbing on the paint.

Using a range of greens and pinks/purples I coloured the ladies - the Mixed Media Origins paper is a little bit like canvas so fabric paints are perfect for it! 

Once everything is coloured and dry, you should assemble the pieces together using fabric glue (I used spray Crafter's Companion Stick'n' Stay).

I think it looks pretty cool, don't you?

LOVE canvas cushion with Ewelina

Hey everyone!

So... usually there is some 'deeper' reason behind each project that I make but not this time. This time the reason was very basic - I received a box full of Opaque Fabric Paints and wanted to trial the new colours. And since I didn't want to just make random colour splodges on a piece of fabric, I grabbed one of the blank canvas pillow covers from Canvas Corp and sat down to make a pretty design on it.

With 'flowers + word' idea in mind, I sat down to work.

I started by finding a flowery stencil in my stash (this one is from ABstudio) and attached it in the cushion corner using paper clips to stop it from moving while the paint was being applied.

Now, using the colours chosen from the package, I stencilled on the flowers; I mixed and matched to make the design look interesting.

When the first stencil was done, I moved it and made sure that the flowers matched so that I could stencil it as one continuous design on the lower part of the cushion.

Once the flowers were completely dry (I used my heat gun because I'm not patient enough), it was time to start on the wording. First, I pencilled three lines on the cover to use as a guide for my lettering; I then wrote the word and, once I was happy with the shape of the letters, I outlined them using a very thin brush. Once the word was completely dry, I erased any of the pencil lines. 

Make sure the paint is dry before you do that as otherwise, you'll smudge your letters!!!

To finish, I emptied one of my old and sun-ridden cushions and stuffed my new fancy one :)

So here it is!

I am not a master of lettering but this one turned out pretty neat.

My mother in law stole it the moment I finished taking the below photo... to be fair it was taken on her sofa so I guess the cushion will look nice in there anyway!

Christmas canvas banner with Ewelina

It's mid-November so call me crazy but I have already started working on my Christmas decorations!

Don't get me wrong, I am not displaying them anywhere yet - they're all going to nicely wait in a box in my studio until the first week December. I am not that crazy!

My first make is a canvas banner from Canvas Corp which I altered to hang on my front door when the time comes.

I started by priming the banner in Procion fixer, which comes as part of the Dytek Procion Dye Complete Starter Kit and will create a base for the Brusho sprays. I have done it last week so that it could air dry thoroughly. 

Once on my working table again, I sprayed it with Scarlet and Sea Green Brusho Sprays and left to dry.

Next, I used gold and bronze Metallic Fabric Paints to stencil on a Christmassy design.

While the paint was still wet, I generously sprinkled Gold and Bronze SprinkleIT to add texture to the stencil.

I purposefully made it uneven and added more SprinkleIt is some areas than others - I really like the distressed, grungy look.

Quick Halloween Pumpkins with Ewelina

Are you Halloween ready?
I certainly am not and last weekend was for catching up on some holiday decor.
I went to a local Pick Your Own Farm and gathered some small-ish pumpkins.
And, since I no longer had an excuse, it was time to do some crafty decorating...

I started by painting all my pumpkins with white gesso and letting it completely dry.
This was the base for my Brusho fun.

First pumpkin was sprinkled with Copper SprinkleIt and Burnt Sienna Brusho. 

I was misting the top with water and adding the pigments as I went until I achieved the look I wanted.

The next one was Crimson and Brilliant Red plus Pearl SprinkleIt.

Here you can see Leaf Green and Sandstone plus Iridescent Goes SprinkleIt.

And finally Terracotta and Yellow Ochre plus Iridescent Flash SprinkleIt.

That's it! The pumpkins are ready - make sure you let the paint dry thoroughly before handling them otherwise you'll end up smudging the drips as well as dyeing your hands.

After admiring the finished pumpkins for a moment, I decided to add some flowers and chipboard spiders to one of them and give it to a friend of mine to put on her doorstep - she loved it!
