Gelli Print flowers with Love

I have made this little card with some gel plate pages and die cuts.

Firstly, I  placed a few blobs of magenta eco-acrylic onto the gelli plate brayered it over the whole plate to ensure and even coverage.  I then laid a stencil over it.  I chose a stencil with an overall pattern with hearts and flowers on it.

I used a piece of copy paper to pull my print.  I used copy paper instead of my usual thicker card because I didn't want the final flowers to be delicate.

I repeated the process several times with varying shades of magenta and white (which I mixed together) until I had a selection of prints.  For some prints, I used the 'negative' and for others I used the 'positive' part of the print.

I then selected a fabulous flower die and die cut several 'layers' of petals from the different prints.

I layered them on top of each other and poked a hole through the middle and secured the flowers with a brad.  For one of the flowers, I used glue and sprinkled a number of beads in the centre.

I created a double frame for mounting using co-ordinating coloured card.

Finally, I added a Happy Birthday sentiment stamp onto one of the pieces of gelli printed paper.  Simple, feminine and an easy card.

Art Journaling- Five Layers with Brusho and DesignIT paste

I've been a huge fan of art journals for quite some time-but have gotten a bit stuck on how to get started!
As I was looking at and reading about different pages, I saw someone mentioning doing 'five different layers' so I took my inspiration from that.
I had constructed a junk journal a couple of weeks ago- basically cutting up paper bags from different shops, using different off cuts of papers from other projects, as well as some patterned note pads I had. I put a bunch of these together using an easy binding which allows me to remove and re-add pages for ease of working on them.

I selected a two page spread and began to layer.

Layer one- glue on a piece of old wrapping paper.

Layer two- DesignIt pastes in gold and bronze through a large flower stencil.

Layer three- Sprinkle and spray Brushos in Terracotta, Bright Red, Yellow and Black.

Layer four- White gesso sparsely spread through a small flower stencil.

Layer five- text printed, cut out and glued.

And that's that! I really easy and effective way to break into art journaling

I always think the house looks a bit sad when the Christmas / winter decorations come down so I have been thinking ahead to other decorations which could replace them. Finding some old rolls of tape, waiting to be recycled, sparked an idea so I gathered the supplies I thought I might use: paper, Aztec metallic paints, Eco acrylic paint, Brusho crystal colours, the tape rolls and some paper ribbon saved from a Christmas present!

Choosing some shades of pink and red Brusho colours, I also spied my wax resist crayons.

I scribbled hearts randomly with a wax resist crayon on one paper and coloured several scraps of paper with Brusho colours and with Aztec gold paint ready to die-cut and decorate a tape roll frame. I loved the wax resist paper so much I couldn't bear to cut it up so more on that later...

While the papers were drying I wrapped the paper ribbon round the tape roll, leaving a loop to hang it from, and then die cut lots of hearts from the papers.

I stuck the hearts all round the hoop and used a brush to splatter them with Eco Acrylic gold paint. A bow was die cut from the painted paper and auditioned before I decided to stamp and cut the banner in the top photo.

So, a bonus, especially as I have so many family birthdays coming up this month: I cut the wax resist paper in two, mounted each on a card base, added die cut bows and sentiments with a few embellishments and created some quick cards!

I'm really pleased with how these came out and I still have plenty of die-cut hearts left to decorate another project. Is it too soon to mention Valentine's day?!

LOVE canvas cushion with Ewelina

Hey everyone!

So... usually there is some 'deeper' reason behind each project that I make but not this time. This time the reason was very basic - I received a box full of Opaque Fabric Paints and wanted to trial the new colours. And since I didn't want to just make random colour splodges on a piece of fabric, I grabbed one of the blank canvas pillow covers from Canvas Corp and sat down to make a pretty design on it.

With 'flowers + word' idea in mind, I sat down to work.

I started by finding a flowery stencil in my stash (this one is from ABstudio) and attached it in the cushion corner using paper clips to stop it from moving while the paint was being applied.

Now, using the colours chosen from the package, I stencilled on the flowers; I mixed and matched to make the design look interesting.

When the first stencil was done, I moved it and made sure that the flowers matched so that I could stencil it as one continuous design on the lower part of the cushion.

Once the flowers were completely dry (I used my heat gun because I'm not patient enough), it was time to start on the wording. First, I pencilled three lines on the cover to use as a guide for my lettering; I then wrote the word and, once I was happy with the shape of the letters, I outlined them using a very thin brush. Once the word was completely dry, I erased any of the pencil lines. 

Make sure the paint is dry before you do that as otherwise, you'll smudge your letters!!!

To finish, I emptied one of my old and sun-ridden cushions and stuffed my new fancy one :)

So here it is!

I am not a master of lettering but this one turned out pretty neat.

My mother in law stole it the moment I finished taking the below photo... to be fair it was taken on her sofa so I guess the cushion will look nice in there anyway!

Love is.... an altered notebook by Sarah

Hi Everyone!

Happy New Year!

This is my first blog post of the year and what better a way to start it than with a little altered notebook.. a quick and easy project

The products I have focused on today are Brusho crystal colours and soft form relief paste and the overall look I was going for was that of a washed out shabby chic style.

Step 1 Take a plain hard covered notebook and prepare the surface with a layer of white gesso.

Step 2 add a strip of cotton lade to the binding edge of the book

Step 3 Apply a generous layer of soft form relief paste to the cover of the notebook (a bit like icing a cake)  press in a wooden heart and allow to dry naturally.

Step 4 Once the relief paste was dry I used some embossing enamel for additional texture

Step 5 Sprinkle the surface of the book with Brusho and spritz with water until you have the look you desire, using your heat tool to dry the layers as you go along

Step 6 I stamped a sentiment onto the wooden heart with black stazon ink
