Angelina Fibres on a canvas bag

Hi everyone!

I have been MIA for a while but I am back now... sorry for that :)

In August, I went to drop off some of my past projects with Colourcraft at their stand at Quilt Festival - I usually avoid going to busy conventions like this because I'm not a fan of crowds but I have to admit that this one was something else! Not only because of the amazing quilting work that I had the pleasure of seeing but also because I got to have a chat with the Colourcraft people and, most of all, get my hands on some brand new products. 

Let me tell you something... they are awesome!!!

Today, I will share with you my canvas pouch with some cool embellishments made using Angelica Fibers. Not that I am blowing my own trumpet but... I have the coolest fruit lunch bag in my department!

When I first saw the small package filled with shine, colourful fiber I was like... what do I do with this? But after a quick demo, my mind was fluttering with ideas!

Here goes:

Choose your stamps, black ink (it's better if it's pretty wet) and your fibres. set your iron on medium heat (Be careful not to melt your stamp with too high setting!!!) and have baking paper ready. Ink the stamp generously and arrange fibres so that they completely cover the design. Cover it with a sheet of baking parchment and iron over until you see the stamp design come through the fabric. Remove the baking parchment and delicately remove the fibres - now melted into a sheet - from the stamp. The result should be as the last pic above shows - the design stamped onto the luminous rainbowy fabric.

Repeat the process for all the stamps you want to use in your project.

Once all your designs are ready, cut them neatly out ready for assemble. 

Do not dispose of the leftover fibres - you can use them next time - no waste!!!

You can finish your project here by attaching the elements to your bag. I used spray fabric glue to do it (Crafter's Companion Stick and Stay for fabric is perfect for that).

Or you can do what I did and create a colourful background for the elements.

To do that, I outlined the main element on the bag to know where it would be placed once finished.

I then chose a flowery stencil and with plenty of colourful Opaque Fabric Paints, I added the flower wall over the bag.

Once the paint was completely dry, I attached the fibre elements onto the bag.

Because I wanted to add some dimension to the elements, I attached the butterflies only at their centre so that the wings were sticking out when the bag is filled with my apples and oranges.

The pouch is really fun and so far, everyone who has seen it, asked where I got it from...

I'm sure it's the rainbow sparkles that do it!

Beach inspired mini bag with Ewelina

What do you get your seaside obsessed mate who has everything already?
The answer is pretty simple - something handmade to make sure she doesn't have it yet! hahaha
Not to spoil the ending but... the idea was a winner! Yay!

I decided to stick to the seaside theme and make a small canvas bag in which she could safely store her beloved planner (obviously it's one with an anchor design on it!).

I dug out one of my mini canvas bags from my stash and a set of Fabric Paints (both Metallic and Opaque).

My stencil of choice was one from FabScraps collection C93 - it has a starfish design on it.

To make sure the stencil stays in place, I used bulldog clips in all four corners (you can never be over-prepared, you know!)

After choosing my colours, I kept dabbing through the stencil until the whole bag was covered in the design.

Once my starfish were dry, I added canvas embellishments (ribbon and flower) as well as some metal studs. Quick, easy and most of all, cute!

Starry Canvas Backpack with Ewelina

Yeah, paint on fabric seems to be my thing recently... 

I have a whole massive set of awesome Opaque Fabric Paints and I'm not afraid to use them.

Thankfully, I also have boxes upon boxes of various canvas products from Canvas Corp...

I'm such lucky girl, you know!!!

 

This time, I wanted to make my backpack worthy of a star...

...so I got a blank canvas bag, Art Foamies star set and various green and blue paints.

The aim was for the stars to be slightly grungy but colourful so I dabbed 2-4 different shade on each stamp before imprinting the design on fabric.

Here's what the first star looked like!

I did the same with all the remaining stars - I didn't want the stamping to be extremely neat; I love the handmade, slightly rustic look.

That's me in progress... Slightly messy but extremely satisfying!

Now, I am ready to fill my bag with some goodies and go off walking with my mini-me.

'Art on the go' - canvas purse with Ewelina

Since I am such a creative person (yes, there is a hint of sarcasm in this sentence!), I decided that I cannot have my mini art journal and pens freely rolling around the bottom of my bag. Oh, no! So to make sure that, as usual, I take it to the next OTT level, I used a plain canvas cosmetic bag (Canvas Corp, of course!) and turned it into an artsy 'art on the go' holder.

Here's how it went...

My starting point was locating the cosmetic bag, deciding on a stencil and finding washi tape to keep the stencil in place (I have about 50 rolls so deciding on which can be so 'pointlessly wasted' was quite a task!).

Next, I attached the stencil and chose the colours to use on the front - shades of blue seemed like the right choice.

As the stencilling progressed, I made sure that I matched the design as I was moving along to make it all look neat and tidy... you know, professional!

Once the front was finished, I dried it using my heat gun before starting work on the back.

I chose another stencil for the back - a bunch of flowers - a stencilled the first layer using the same colours I used for the front. Let it dry.

I then chose 4 pinkish and 1 yellow paint and started layering the same stencil over and over adding more flowers and colours; you will see the progress if you follow the photo clockwise starting from the top right corner. 

I was drying the paint in between layers to avoid it smudging and mixing.

I really like that you can see the colour layers rather than having full coverage...

And... that's it! Done! Nice and easy!

I then stuffed my favourite mini Art Journal and some pens inside ready to go in my bag and on the road with me.

Knowing life, I will probably end up doodling around the flowers at the back which will make it even more artsy hahaha you never know, you might get an update when that happens.

Personalising canvas products with Ewelina

Hi! Did you miss my post two weeks ago? My health has finally given up to the ever-changing weather and I ended up having the worst ear infection in the history of humanity! No, I am not exaggerating at all! Well, maybe a little... Two weeks down the line and I am still half-deaf and in a lot of pain but made myself go into my craft room and play with some colours for a bit. 

Here's the result!

I took my fabric paints, Canvas Corp canvas products (tote bag, round coasters and a table runner), stencils by TandiArt and various sponges and daubbing brushes.

First, was the tote bag...

I attached the 'girl with hearts' in left corner of the bag and started dabbing the paints onto the fabric through the stencil.

Be careful not to add too much paint as it will end up bleeding and you'll lose the design and its details.

This is what it looked like before removing the stencil.

This is my finished girl - it came out very clean and the colours are bright and crisp!

Second was the table runner and two round coasters.

I started the same way as with the bag - with brushes I stencilled the colourful butterflies onto the coasters and then (in exactly the same colours) onto the table runner.

Looks pretty neat, right?!

I think it's a cool way of making cute, personal gifts - this set is going to a little girl celebrating her 9th birthday at the end of October. I'm sure she's going to love it!
