Make Your Own Metallic Card

Hello.  Gail here today with my first post for 2019 here at the ColourCraft blog.  I hope you all had a very merry festive season and a happy new year.  The new year got me thinking.  Lots of us have had some new crafty goodies for Christmas, and I know many people are tidying up, organising and trying to use what they have.  I have always liked to try and recycle things and a while ago I discovered that cereal boxes tend to be very good quality card, in various natural shades, that take ink, paint and folding very well.  I also love to work with metallics, using metal sheets and mirror card in a lot in my projects.  So I decided to to have a go at making my own metallic card using Colourcrafts Aztec Metallic Paints.  Here's the result.

Isn't that beautiful!!!  And so easy!

I started with part of a cornflake box and Aztec Gold metallic paint.  I poured a small amount of the paint on the cardboard and started to spread it using a small flat brush.  A little goes a long way!!  I kept working the paint, drawing it out and smoothing it, finishing by brushing it all in the same direction to give a smooth surface.   Once dry I decided to add another layer of paint to one side on my painted area, just to see.....

Here I have embossed the double painted piece with Couture Creations Ooh La La embossing folder.  Isn't that pretty!!

Then I used a piece of the card I had painted only once and embossed the birdcage from another Couture Creations embossing folder.  A slightly lighted shade of gold on this piece of card.  I used my big sharp scissors to fussy cut the large birdcage.

I used a stitched die to cut my panel.  It flattened the embossed detail around the edges a bit so next time I would cut, then emboss.  I die cut the love from another piece of the painted card using a Gummiapan die and added it and the fussy cut birdcage to the panel.

I think this is a very economic way of making your own metallic card.  The results are fabulous and the embossing really stands out.  I can't wait to try it with silver and copper!!  Off to get painty.  Hugz
