Summer flowers in Brusho by Rebecca Yoxall

Happy Friday!
Hope you're having a lovely week and looking forward to the weekend :-)

I've put together a little post for today to show you how SIMPLE it is to paint flowers with the fabulous BRUSHO powders.

I adore flowers and have painted and drawn them for as long as I can remember. I also enjoy the freedom that painting flowers gives me as I can be as bold and colourful as I want........ AND my paintings don't even have to represent any real flower varieties, it's fine to just play with shapes that appear like flowers. My next blog post will show you a few more of my fantasy flower creations but for now I want to give you some basic tips that I have found to make creating flowers really easy.

Grab a sheet of watercolour paper, a jar of water, a nice soft bristle brush then select from one the wonderful Brusho colours. I chose ORANGE.
Sprinkle a small amount of your colour onto dry paper where you would like the flower to be. The sprinkled powder will become the centre of the flower.
Dip your brush into the water so that it is quite full and then carefully use the end of the brush to drag out the colour crystals from the centre to form a petal shape.
It can be any shape you wish.
Keep going until either all the Brusho has dissolved or you have your desired number of petals. (Any excess Brusho can be picked up with a DRY brush or a short sharp blow usually does the trick for me...just be careful which direction you blow! ;-)

The next stage for me is adding a stem. This can be done by drawing a fine line of water onto the paper with  thin pointed brush or a pipette and then sprinkling your brusho crystals into it. The Brusho will dissolve instantly into the wet areas and simple blow away from any dry areas.
I chose OLIVE GREEN for the stems

Each flower was then painted one at a time to build up my design and placing a few leaves at the bottom to balance the stems.

The painting can be developed by adding background washes additional colours and other types of foliage. There's no end to the possibilities.

Hope that might give you some ideas for creating your own beautiful flower designs.

  3. Thes look amazing, but breaking it down makes it seem achievable, even for someone like me who doesn't do realism! Time to play (again!!)
